Project-based MA programme
The MA programme in Design is a two-year full-time programme comprising four semesters. 26 students are accepted each year, the programme is taught in English, and there are no tuition fees. The MA project can be formulated and developed within the subject areas of Visual communication and Furniture and Spatial design/Interior Architecture.
Independent practice has a central place. An independent research project—the MA project—is the programme’s main component. Each student defines his/her own project, which is developed over the two years through individual studies, experimentation and discussion with lecturers and fellow students.
MA students are included in KHiB’s artistic research environment with academic staff and research fellows. Students’ own practice and individual project work is integrated with and supported through individual tutoring, group tutoring and seminars initiated by the three research groups within the Department of Design. The programme also offers a broad set of specific or cross disciplinary seminars, workshops and projects.
Students admitted to the Master programme are self-driven and are both able and inspired to work in cross disciplinary groups. The students have access to relevant workspaces, project rooms and workshops. KHiB has technical expertise and tutoring competence within a wide range of disciplines.
Every spring the final year MA students organize a public exhibition of their work. This is an important opportunity for the graduating students to present their work to a broad public.
