A programme for dance and theatre artists who critically envision their practice through research
The ArtEZ’s Master of Theatre Practices invites choreographers, theatre directors, dancers, actors, scenographers and dramaturgs to apply, offering the opportunity to deepen artistic practice through research, peer sessions and mentoring with experienced teachers and inspiring guests from the international field of performing arts.
The Master of Theatre Practices in ArtEZ is a two-year, full-time and partially residential practice-as-research programme, where participants design and do independent research in close dialogue with teachers, mentors and guests (such as Jonathan Burrows, Lotte van den Berg, Janez Janša, Myriam van Imschoot, Bruno Listopad, Meg Stuart, Dood Paard, Ant Hampton, among others) joining a carefully selected group of international artists holding Bachelor’s degrees and/or proved professional experience.
The programme stimulates, supports and challenges artistic growth, balancing intensive collective periods and individual work, aiming to challenge, support and empower artists to be self-critical, proactive, and able to sustain their artistic singularity within the broad context of their field and of their own trajectory.
Evolving from the former Master of Choreography, artistic research is seen as a practice that dynamically relates artistic making, discursive development, documentation of practices and critical positioning with(in) institutions, being developed through three on-going trajectories:
–Artistic Research: where notions and practices of composition, acting, moving, dramaturgy, and performativity are explored by means of artistic making;
–Writing Practices: where writing becomes a practice embedded in the artistic research, taking different forms including argumentative, performative and critical writing;
–Documenting-Archiving-Publishing: where artists map the context of their practice and position their working in relation to the field;
