The TRANScuratorial Academy (TCA) is a new initiative of the foundation KfW Stiftung with the aim of advancing its commitment to curatorial capacity building in a global context. Directed by Beatrice von Bismarck and Benjamin Meyer-Krahmer, the TCA is a mobile, high intensity format, focusing on key issues which gained urgency within contemporary transcultural curatorial practice. Its purpose is an international knowledge transfer, networking and the development of the transcultural and transdisciplinary curatorial discourse in theory and practice. It thus takes into account the decisively changing demands on those active within the curatorial field under the conditions of globalization. Furthermore, understanding the curatorial as a field of cultural production in its own right the TCA emphasizes the gains from reciprocal reflections of curatorial theory and practice. In this context it will raise discussions on topics such as mediation, collectivity, governmentality and critique with respect to the transcultural and transdisciplinary implications for the curatorial. The academy is structured in chapters, each of which is centered around a key issue.
The TCA brings together emerging curators in a five-day program consisting of lectures, a symposium, workshops, seminars and field trips. The participants will have the chance to discuss the central topic with internationally renowned experts. In addition they have the opportunity to present selected projects to the public and exchange their experiences and research amongst each other. Encounters and discussions with protagonists of the local curatorial scene are a further important part of the TCA. Alumni of KfW Stiftung (artists, curators) play a vital role in the TCA acting both as participants and hosts.

The kick-off will take place from May 15 to 20, 2017 in Berlin in collaboration with Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW).
