Emerging curator Corrie Jackson has been selected for the 2017 Hnatyshyn Foundation-Fogo Island Arts Young Curator Residency. The program, valued at 15,000 dollars annually, sends an exceptional young Canadian curator between the ages of 25 and 30 to work in residence at Fogo Island Arts, a contemporary art venue on Fogo Island, Newfoundland. During the residency, the curator will work closely with Fogo Island Arts’ international artists-in-residence, staff, and members of the community, and contribute to Fogo Island Arts initiatives. The six-week residency will take place in the summer of 2017. Candidates are selected based on their body of work and their ability to work both independently and as part of a team. This year’s selection was adjudicated by Nicolaus Schafhausen, Strategic Director of Fogo Island Arts and Director of Kunsthalle Wien, and Reesa Greenberg, an art and exhibition historian.

Corrie Jackson is the RBC Associate Art Curator, overseeing the management and growth strategy of the RBC Corporate Art Collection and developing engagement surrounding RBC’s support of the visual arts. A recent graduate of the Master of Visual Studies, Curatorial Practice program at the University of Toronto, Corrie’s curatorial interests focus on cross-generational dialogues and developing the role of collections as accountable and inclusive narratives. Previously she worked at the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery at the University of Toronto, at Sotheby’s Canada, and as an independent curator. She is on the board of contemporary art centre Mercer Union and the Gardiner Museum, and is the senior advisor to the Hart House Art Committee at the University of Toronto.
