Sandberg Instituut’s new interdisciplinary Radical Cut-Up Master’s programme in Amsterdam: celebrating the emergence and evolution of the cut-up as the contemporary mode of creativity and dominant global model of cultural production today.
Directed by Berlin-based curator and artist Lukas Feireiss, Radical Cut-Up encourages its participants from across all disciplines to copy, combine, create and celebrate experimental forms of creative production. Against the backdrop of the accelerated growth of new digital technologies that expand the production and circulation of images, text, sound, and objects in contemporary life, the interdisciplinary temporary master’s thereby draws on a broader definition of the term “cut-up” as a mixture or fusion of disparate elements, or the art of carefully crafted juxtaposition.
Radical Cut-Up is a continuation and discontinuation of the previous material-based Master programmes at Sandberg Instituut and collaborates uniquely with the Gerrit Rietveld Academie’s material departments and workshops such Ceramics, Glass, Textile, CadCam, Wood, Metal, Screenprint and Photography.
Amongst the numerous collaborators that join the programme as tutors are the Belgian artist Peter de Potter renown for his artwork for Kanye West album The Life of Pablo and his collaboration with fashion designer Raf Simmons; Norwegian artist Hanne Lippard who recently inaugurated the new KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin; internationally renown Turkish concept artist Ahmet Ögüt whose work focuses on the shifts in perspective on social and political issues; Berlin-based DJ and forward thinking producer Sarah Farina whose acclaimed Boiler Room sets attracted a lot of attention worldwide; Dutch curator, writer and photographer Charlie Koolhaas; as well as the German fashion and textile designer Nadine Goepfert whose design was prominently featured in Solange Knowles’s video Cranes in the Sky, and many more!
Starting class in October 2017, Radical Cut-Up is open for applications until April 1, 2017 from the field of design, graphics, photography, video, architecture, film, sculpture, dance, theater, poetry, philosophy, literature, drawing, painting, animation, digital media, illustration and fashion design!
