An international publication marathon for women and feminism, through the arts, on Wikipedia
March 4–5, 2017
The third edition of Edit-a-thon Art+Feminisms organised by Lafayette Anticipations - Fondation d’entreprise Galeries Lafayette is placed under the aegis of disidentification and José Esteban Munoz alongside Wu Tsang and will take place at the Archives Nationales on Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5, 2017.
Edit-a-thon Art+Feminisms is an international marathon on arts and feminisms. During two days of editing workshops and meetings, the public is invited to reduce gender inequalities on Wikipedia platform (less than 12% of contributors are women) and to discuss its issues and potential in the field of art.
What is a queer life? “Queerness is not yet here,” once said José Esteban Muñoz, “queerness is an ideality. Put another way, we are not yet queer. We have never been queer, yet queerness exists for us as an ideality that can be distilled form the past and used to imagine the future. The future is queerness’s domain.”
The public is invited to contribute directly during two days of meetings and editing workshops on Wikipedia. Synchronously, with more than 150 places around the world, these pratices aim at reducing gender inequalities on Wikipedia by editing on art and feminism, with a particular focus on artistic forms of the disidentification: humor, irony, misunderstanding, parody, melancholy, camp, etc. These tactics are described in the book of José Esteban Muñoz Disidentifications: Queers Of Color And The Performance Of Politics (1999) but also by the artists, curators, art critics who will join us for this occasion.
Disidentification regroups the processes by which a minority group distances itself from the stereotypes through its artistic practice and marks its refusal to conform to dominant norms. According to Muñoz, disidentification is not only an artistic strategy for survival and emancipation for precarious people but also a form of criticism of their living conditions in society. It is a construction of identity in hybrid, moving, comic or melancholic and sometimes hidden forms that reflect a vagabond and queer life.

About Lafayette Anticipations
Founded in October 2013, Lafayette Anticipations - Fondation d’entreprise Galeries Lafayette will open its doors in autumn 2017 in the Marais district of Paris. This public interest foundation aims to support contemporary artists and creative work in general. This new institution is also open to design and fashion, recognising the unique minds of all creatives in their ability to not only participate in social change, but also anticipate it. Lafayette Anticipations is structured around its production activity. It is the first multidisciplinary centre of its kind in France. As a place of experimentation and fundamental research, it offers artists, creatives, designers and performers unique conditions and tools for developing prototypes, implementing projects and taking their work in new directions. In addition to exhibitions, a variety of transmission forums give tangibility to the creative process and facilitate exchanges between artists and the public, making the foundation a place of production, reception and active sharing.
