Raúl Ruiz Read Bio Collapse
Raúl Ruiz (1941-2011) was a Chilean filmmaker and writer, considered one of the most innovative and prolific moving-image artists of all time. He made over 100 films in his lifetime, ranging from avant-garde works, narrative fictions, and installation art and was known for his playful, surrealistic style and his interest in exploring the boundaries between reality and fiction. Ruiz’s films often dealt with themes of memory, identity, and colonialism, and he frequently used non-linear narrative structures and complex visual symbolism to create a sense of ambiguity and uncertainty.
