About the project called 'Berliner Bahnhöfer', in Berlin, 18.09.2012

Moving to Berlin, it is almost impossible to ignore the history of the city. As I am interested on how cities are structured and how people move around, I started to pay special attention on the large empty areas inside the city, on irrational places. When it came to me later, that these parks and wasteland areas all used to be train stations, I wanted to make a project about it.
Since the starting point was on my personal interest that even I cannot explain and the whole trigger on excitement of urban exploring and somewhat nerdish fascination of trains it was very difficult to bring a contemporary or conceptual aspect to the project so that it could speak for a wider audience.
I came up with an idea of taking 'landscape' photos on the sites trying to refer on typical landscapes what we all have seen, a glacier, trees on a desert, a savannah etc, having only small details visible in the image revealing the original use of that site. I end up with a big bunch of pretty photos and weak connections.
I gave a last chance for the project on a crit by presenting it in a form of a lecture but while talking about the history of Görlizer Bahnhof of fine art students in Helsinki it came very clear to me that this just doesn't work within the context of art. I could make a great tourist guide thou.
