Monument: Debussy’s La Mer: SPIRAL MONUMENT – an unrealized project SPIRAL MONUMENT intends to drop visitors into the grooves of a recording of Debussy’s famed orchestral work La Mer. This structure, which replicates the surface of a vinyl recording of this musical composition, would be constructed on a scale so massive it would suggest a unique landscape feature. Viewers could explore this musical topography by walking, cycling or driving through its aqueduct-like recesses. Some might see it as an inverted homage to Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty. The accompanying images document my work +/- spiral monument, which formed the inspiration for this idea. +/- spiral monument (2007), vinyl LP, biscuit fired clay and epoxy adhesive, 3 x 30 cm diameter Lux Geier 17 October 2012
