Following the neglection by and large of the history of the original Bauhaus for a long time, the succeeding institution, the Hochschule für Architektur und Bauwesen wanted to pay tribute to its own tradition in the process of becoming a University (Bauhaus University Weimar since 1996) by creating two new faculties: the faculty for design in 1993 with three departments (art, design and visual communication), and the faculty for media in 1996 with three departments (media design, media theory and media systems). Following in the tradition of Bauhaus, students have the possibility to take part in different lectures at all faculties in an interdisciplinary way.
The selected artists are teaching at both faculties. They have international experience and reputations. The show will present drawings, sculptures, installations, photographs and videos by the professors together with assistants and alumni. The exhibition will provide a catalogue to give a comprehensive insight into the current art production of the Bauhaus University.
