Mapping the Common Ground: Collaborations Across Cultures
November 20–22, 2019
ELIA Leadership Symposium is dedicated to leaders of higher arts education institutions across the globe, who are invited to come together and connect with peers, engage with relevant topics, and learn from others.
The 9th edition, hosted by China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, will focus on the challenges of cross-cultural collaboration within the realm of higher arts education.
Prompted by globalisation, internationalisation has become a key strategy in the sector. While exploring opportunities for collaboration, leaders of arts institutions are often confronted with significant cultural differences. How do we identify the “unthought of” which exists between cultures? How do we teach and do research in these contexts? What are some of the cultural biases that might stand in the way of fruitful collaborations? How can we, as leaders, equip our institutions with the right tools to overcome these biases? How can we map the common ground?
Delegates of this unique event will have the opportunity to explore the theme of cross-cultural collaboration through inspiring high-profile keynotes, conversations with peers, organised meetings and practice explorations. See the full programme here.
