Opening hours: Tue-Fri 14-19 h, Sat 11-16 h
On 29.04.2010, the exhibition ‘bückware’ will open at jens fehring gallery at 7:00 p.m. featuring works by painter Kati Gräfin von Schwerin (born 1983), a graduate of the Düsseldorf Art Academy and master student of Markus Lüpertz.
‘I must be allowed to invent and discover myself anew every day’ claims Kati von Schwerin, even though the young painter has already developed a unique and distinctive style during her just finished studies. She visualises her world using a modern picture language that is enriched with elements of pop art and design and blends the classic approach to painting with expansive installation. In doing so, she creates a functioning and electrifying interaction between these two very distinct areas. The frequently complex structures of her paintings invariably feature a blend of irony and mockery which Kati von Schwerin ultimately uses to express unobtrusive criticism of both her surroundings and fundamental issues.
According to Kati von Schwerin, her role models are well-known artists Martin Kippenberger and Tobias Rehberger, with whom the young talented artist shares a predilection for choosing titles that are reminiscent of a conversation, such as ‘Danke, es geht so’ (‘OK, thanks’) to enhance the work with an additional level of interpretation. What she most appreciates about her teacher Markus Lüpertz is the extension of his passion beyond the visual arts to encompass lyrical verse in search of subtle interrelationships. But above all, Kati von Schwerin wants to create her own stories and not tell those of other people.
The exhibition will be open for viewing from 30.04.2010 – 19.06.2010 at jens fehring gallery in Frankfurt, Germany.
