The Art and Craft Department offers two MFA programmes.

The MFA programme in Medium- and Material based Art is a multi-disciplinary, two-year full-time course. The programme aims to stimulate and support experimental and interdisciplinary approaches to a unique range of art and craft practices: Textile, Ceramics, Print and Drawing, Metal- and Jewellery art. The programme emphasises art making and an innovative, critical attitude to medium and material-based art. The focus is on the development of each student’s individual art practice. Each student is assigned a main tutor and a workspace at one of the four areas of specialisation. The teaching and learning methods include: individual tutorials, group critiques, lectures, practical and theoretical workshops and seminars, student led discussion groups. Exhibition practice and writing practice are integrated components of the course. For further information: khio.no

MFA in Art and Public Space is a new master programme at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. The two-year study programme focuses on art and its relationship with the public sphere. Our goal is to critically examine the spatial, social and political issues around the problematic subject of public(s) and their space. The programme provides a critical and analytical setting in which artists and others with a professional commitment to the arts can develop the means for an appraisal of the contemporary implications and actual significance of their work. The programme actively encourages students to develop their practice through various methods of research and analytical thinking, as well as practical engagement with sites and situations found in our society today.
