About Stockholm University of the Arts
Stockholm University of the Arts is establishing a research environment that promotes the development of education and research with a focus on high artistic quality, originality, innovation and critical potential.
Investment in artistic research contributes to the strengthening and further development of first- and second-cycle programmes’ specialisations and topicality. Research becomes a dynamic driving force for artistic knowledge development and provides excellent opportunities for collaboration and exchanges with art and cultural life, exerting influence on critical dialogue. The new research environment should be steeped in the overall concepts of transdisciplinarity, performance (gestaltung*) processes and critical encounters.
Uniarts has four fields of research education: Choreography, Media, Opera and Performing Arts. Uniarts’ research strategy identifies four new profile areas: concept and composition, bodily and vocal practices, public engagements, technology/materiality/performance (gestaltung). Stockholm University of the Arts is comprised of the University of Dance and Circus, the University College of Opera, and the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts and was established on January 1, 2014.
Stockholm University of the Arts and the Royal Institute of Art have entered an agreement on a research collaboration, including two Ph.D. positions. Hereby visual art is added as a field of research education.
