This project furthers her “Shooting Stars” (2014–) series and creates a new work, God Save the Huia. She will talk about her practice at 1pm on June 26.
Agassiz Down Under
July 7–22, exhibition by Sasha Huber, Te Whare Hēra gallery
The exhibition will feature a selection of works made during the residency including the New Zealand manifestation of the ongoing Demounting Louis Agassiz project. Sasha Huber has been focusing on sites in the Southern Alps named after the controversial Swiss-born naturalist and glaciologist Louis Agassiz (1807–73), who was a proponent of scientific racism and a pioneering thinker of apartheid. German geologist Sir Johann Franz “Julius” von Haast named two sites in New Zealand after his friend and colleague Agassiz.
