    EXT- NORDIC SEA – SUNDOWN

A former fisherman’s boat, now just a dingy filled with a crew of desperados, is roaming along the cold seas of the north. On this rusty, unkempt ship we see several idle characters enwrapped in a surreal silence. There is an English Captain, an Iranian, a German, a Jew and several Italians. All sport long beards, probably ridden with fleas. Somehow the waves seem to be rolling the cargo towards the land. There is no real joy, nor fear, the men seem to be oblivious to anything… even the sight of land in the distance does not ignite particular reactions. A man leans out to get a better view, then he spits in the sea. The actual captain, who is blind as a bat and sports two eye patches can sense just a flicker of liveliness in his men. He doesn’t ask questions. He just pops a pill and goes back rocking on his chair, smoothing his beard. This time there’s the hint of a smile, a very crooked smile.

It’s winter, no doubt about that, as snow and rocks and a few volcanoes is all the approaching landscape seems to offer. The Arctic and cold sun is low towards the horizon and from the few whitened roofs of the Vestmannaeyjar Island, chimneys puff smoke constantly.

    The Landing

The crew, mostly some fake refugees are no good easy go getters, all cut and dirty, one or two so mean and unscrupulous to get kicked out of the Foreign Legion. They’re so cut off from the rest of society, that they’ve been simply abandoning themselves to primitive urges: we see a man masturbating in a corner, while many sleep knocked out by alcohol. Another man, sitting on the deck, hums a sad song while sharpening a cook’s knife. He’s extremely skinny since he doesn’t eat fish and bears a fat winged lady tattooed on his chest. He’s the first one to notice that the ship is being swept towards some unknown shore, and when he slowly approaches the stem his eyes go wide as he lets out an unintelligible scream which awakens the rest of the crew. What was that, by Neptune? Asks the blind captain. All the sailors are quiet and somewhat fascinated. The only sage man on board, a short and plump Jew, mouths a few words in a harsh accent.

JEW “By Abraham’s beard, nothing good can come from a land that is soaked in blood… I have nasty feeling. Only ice and blood…Should’ve never left my stinkin’ kibutz…or even my hotdog stand in Coney Island…”

The captain raises from his chair and demands for his binoculars with a resolute gesture. Somebody passes it to him though the rest of the men shake their head. Captain has a look, then throws the piece of equipment into the sea.

CAPTAIN “These bloody things never seem to work…arrrr”

The Bay is silent, the silence of death, and tinged with a dark red for hundreds of yards. Earlier that day, the local fishermen had started the whale slaughter, a local tradition to celebrate the union between Thor and Siffride.

“Bastards!” Seems to think the Iranian. A scrawny guy with a roman nose, who up to this moment remained still, glaring at the pale sun of those far, far lands. The tinker fends the last wave and finds itself stranded a few feet from the shore. A heavy thud and the landing at last. These hardened men find themselves on this icy dark sand tinged by the blood of the enormous cetaceans. They slowly descend like zombies. Some of them start sobbing, some praying, some even go hysterical as the captain tries to keep his cool, though can help but kick the wrong man for the wrong reasons and say “I smell blood, innocent blood… those who perpetrated this meaningless slaughter shall be punished” The Cap turns around grappling for the Jew, who exasperated gives him his arm. “What is it with these Japs, sushi isn’t enough, now they gotta murder every fuckin’ single whale on this forsaken planet…” “Sir… I don’t think where in Japan….” “I know where we are you garrulous christkiller, I know where we are…” The crew forms a long line on the shore, holding hands. “Those who committed such massacre, shall face our drunken wrath, no man, woman, nor child is no longer safe on this island….”

Once they’ve all reached the shore, the lights of the nearby village tingles the imagination of the crew. Each member starts fantasizing, the Jew smiles a toothless grin daydreaming big blond goddesses, obviously most of these people’s mental images are produced and fuelled by alcohol and ignorance.

Meanwhile back at the village men and women are busy with the last arrangements for the pagan celebrations yet to come. Whale meat boils in huge pots, some hangs from rusty hooks in open. Inside a big closed space, tables are being set for the festivity. Some women are braiding their hair while others shave overtly singing Icelandic folk songs. A big chunk of whale meat is lowered carelessly onto an old Bjork poster. Then it is wrapped up and taken away by a set of greedy hands, followed by a scuttling of bare feet that run off, leaving behind droplets of whale goo. A big Viking-like lady is chopping wood, while a gang of 4 or 5 people is trying to free a Quad stuck in some ditch. A man, bare chest, is washing his armpits with freezing water as he sings some obscure litany

    EXT. LANDING BAY – NIGHT

By the bay our pirates are gathering there few things on the beach of the landing. We see an electric guitar, a crate of whisky and one of Ruhm, some bundle of rags tied with rope, a few trunks and inflatable sex doll. One of the men, goes by and stabs the doll to death. Then, when the Arabic pirate goes by and sees his plastic lover doubled over and lifeless, he goes berserk.

“Who did this, who committed this horrible crime…?” He says of course in Arabic, actually his screams aren’t even Arabic because he’s kind of deaf. The Arab pulls out his dagger and goes around menacingly. Until the Jew goes over to him and tries to sooth him by telling him that in a short while he’ll find himself before some real women…

“You shouldn’t get so attached to material objects my good friend… Where we’re going there is plenty of women… Blond women… don’t forget what we came for…”

The Arabic goes for the Jew’s throat. Some men stop him. Later on, they’ll make up just because one is an Arab and the other one is a Jew it doesn’t mean they have to fight all the time. Drugs, booze, sex and violence will have the two like brothers in arms…

The Jew then confers with the captain, whispering to him a brief description of the situation, while trying to figure out what their next move will be.

JEW Our landing, certainly didn’t go unnoticed…

We already here some quads approaching. The pirates decide to keep a low profile and go along with their plan.

JEW Once again, Cap said we’re a rock band invited to play on an oil platform in the Nordic sea. After some big fire, with many deaths and injuries we managed to reach this all fishermen’s boat…

The rest of the men hide part of the trunks and head for the path that will take them to the village. We see a couple of quads, have stopped in the distance. As if they we’re checking out the newcomers. Some men are nervous, but the Captain tells them not to worry. Once they reach the first bar, after the first few rounds of booze, they realize that the locals are quite friendly, and despite their weariness they enjoy the partying and a band from the Island that starts playing music.

The following morning, the captain wakes his men by stomping on them with his boots, reminding them the goal of their mission. Just like their Turkish ancestors (tough it was actually a mix of Arabs, Italians and Spaniards) they’ve come to the island to kidnap 13 young women from the village in order to sell them to the black prostitution market of Iran. A market rich with women from all over the world, except that for the renown Icelandic beauties.

The Pirates decide to split up into 2 groups: one will tend to the wrecked ship while planning and escape plan and the other group will have to make their cover as a rock band as real as possible. They try to play a gig in the bar and organize a party and invite a lot of women. This way, they’ll be able to choose the best looking ones. After a disgusting breakfast the two gangs take different directions.

The blind captain goes back to the ship with his loyal counselor and two more men. They must assess the entity of the damage and see how long it will take them to repair the dingy. From high up the scene is even stronger than the previous evening. In broad daylight the whole bay is tinged in red. Whale chunks, bones, lips and arses are left there to rot while greedy seagulls feast. One of the men, tries to kick a seagull but the captain admonishes him.

CAPTAIN Indeed we’re a cruel bunch. But if I see you… Ok, smell you… doing something mean to an animal, I’ll feed you to the sharks…arrr

Once they reach the ship they soon realize that it won’t take them too long to fix it. One week at the very most.

On the way back, the captain suddenly stops in his tracks. Still as a statue, he perceives the presence of a woman who stopped as soon as the men walked in front of her. He knows it is a lady by the smell and by the way she breaths.

CAPTAIN Who’s there? Tell us your name lassie, we’ll do you no harm…

    Shilpa Lee.

Hiding behind a rock we find Shilpa Lee aka Sufiah Yusof. She lives on the island though she’s a Malayan national. She was quite famous as a wonder child because thanks to uncommon abilities she managed to enrol at Oxford to study math at the age of 13. An uncanny genius. Unfortunately things didn’t go as everyone expected, Shilpa dropped out of university, became a waitress and wandered around northern Europe until one day a reporter from “News of the world” found her. She was a hooker now, living in the Icelandic countryside where she’d sell her great body to rich entrepreneurs. Here she met Olaffur Egilsson a performer and local rock star, descendent of the Protestant priest bearing the same name who was kidnapped in 1627 during the Tyrkjar·ni ( the pirate absuction and rape of children and women which actually took place in Vestmannaeyjar). Egilsson falls for her and with great effort he manages to snatch her away from the prostitution racket.

Shilpa never disclosed her powers to Olaffur trying to lead a low key life though occasionally helping to retrieve lost objects or cattle without arousing suspicion or much questions. Shilpa could see in the future and this is why she managed to do so well in the math tests at Oxford. She could barely count to ten.

Shilpa shudders once she feels the Captain and his crew approaching. She’s clearly perceiving some negative vibrations. The men are drunk, and boisterous yet the cries of the baby the Malayan beauty his holding to her bosom, give them away. Shilpa decides to come out and face the foreigners.

This modern day Cassandra finds herself before a blind Captain. It is a surreal encounter, where the vicious man takes off both his eye patches to reveal a set of disturbing white pupils. A confrontation made of intense glances, breathing and silences. It is up to the Jew to question the exotic woman as he has noticed the way she’s been glaring at them, especially to the Captain, who remains silent fascinated by the restlessness of Shilpa. Not to mention her perfume. A brief exchange, where almost nothing is said, though certainly the minds of the three seem to be studying one another and this is conveyed by their expressions. Shilpa’s angry almost crazylike close ups, interrupted by the Jew’s hostile yet more calculated glances, while the captain seems to having a hard time. Almost as if he was under some sort of psychic attack which reflects onto his body. He holds his balls, twisting because of excruciating spasms which make the Jew reach for his knife. The captain, babbles a few words to his mate, saying that he’s okey and finally the three depart from each other.

Meanwhile, the group that stayed by the village, have also made some progress. After having strolled between the streets to walk off their hangovers, they’ve found themselves a makeshift stage and started rehearsing a few songs catching the attention of a few bystanders. It is a solid groove, well performed to a point the owner of the bar during one of their many breaks, goes over to them and asks them if they’d like to take part in a jam session with the local band by the end of the week. Obviously the slim pirate with the winged fat lady on his scrawny chest accepts. The mood of the men has improved since the plan is flowing nice and smoothly along with rounds of vodka and demented rock and roll solos.

    The Party

There are stunning beauties at the party, mostly blonds, healthy and fun as the drink starts flowing. They whisper to each other and giggle while Huge bearded men toast loudly. Outside, the wind hisses and all is covered with snow. Somewhat of a lunar landscape, if it weren’t for the houses. There is great contrast with what is going on inside: Vodka, foreplay and rock n' roll. The party is taking a wild turn, so wild that the arrival of the crew that went to check out the boat, goes almost unnoticed. The women start to be flirtatious, and apparently are quite happy to receive the rowdy attentions of these dark and filthy pirates which they mistake for a Levantine rock band…

The only person who doesn’t seem to be enjoying herself is Shilpa, though even the Captain sports a troubled expression which he tries to cover with tense smiles and the occasional toast with the burly men from the island.

The best looking women are being mentally selected by the Iranian, who thanks to uncommon histrionic abilities and nonchalance dances with them in order to have a closer look to the goods. Some are the women of the musicians that are performing on stage along with the Rotten Sharks, our pirates in disguise.

The party doesn’t kick on till late. As the moon dimly lights the whole island, various women are being stalked by the Jew and two other men, in order to spot their homes. Despite his plump appearance, the Captain’s first mate is extremely nimble and resourceful. A couple of times, a tall blond turns around to see if she’s being followed and our man improvises excellent escamotages. Once he simply turns around and hugs himself, giving the impression that he’s making out with another man. Another time he dives behind a trashcan with a double flip. Both times the girl shrugs and resumes walking. The Jew could easily be an ex-mossad man.

    The Slaughter, Abduction & Rape

Shilpa and Olaffur are the last ones to hit the sack. Shilpa isn’t feeling well, she’s restless and Olaffur thinks it’s because of him. He tries talking to her though he’s hurt by the detached attitude of his woman and slightly drunk he decides to go crash under the roof (his band’s studio) leaving Shilpa and the baby alone in the bedroom. It is almost dawn. Despite weariness and all the alcohol still running through their veins, the pirates decide to get going. The Cap pulls out a bag of uppers, his very personal stock and puts Squiggles in charge of distributing them to the crew. Squiggles has a very personal way of living out the goods. He lines up the men the best he can, takes one for himself and gives one to the man closet to him, the none for him again and one to another, until the Captain seems to smell his fiendish excitement and nails him.

They start off with the bar owner’s daughter. The routine is simple. They break into a house, kill the men in their sleep by cutting their throats or stabbing them in the heart, then they put the terrorized women back to sleep with a cloth soaked with chloroform, gather them up into a stolen van and carry on. It is of course a massacre. The men don’t even have time to react. The pirates slit throats and abduct like the coldblooded pros they are. They sweep out an entire village in no time, the raid the unharmed population like the Horsemen of Apocalypse.

Even Shilpa’s sleep is a hellish night mare. She sees blood running down the mountains and half decomposed sharks fighting against her own self, they reach the shore and dive back into the dark Nordic sea. In the background hooded women and Islamic litanies echoing like an upcoming menace. Despite such disturbing vision Shilpa, snores and farts, and drools. The pirates enter the wooden shack with the typical green lawn on the roof. They find the Malayan witch alone, therefore they drug her and tie her up. The old father is easily awoken and comes to check the nature of all the clatter, muffled cussing and whispers he has heard. As soon as he notices some shadows rushing through the night he switches on the light. It’s too late. An experienced hand has just pierced his back with a knife, reaching the heart and out through the lungs which are filled with blood in no time, preventing the old man from screaming. He stumbles to the ground where he shakes like a dying salmon in a pool of red blood.

The pirates leave on a stolen van, crashing through a wooden fence. At that Olaffur awakens drenched in sweat. He has a horrible hunch. He runs downstairs just to see the dead corpse of his father in the hall. Shilpa and the baby are gone. A blood churning scream reaches the mountains and echoes throughout the whole valley. The man runs to the fence, then grabs a hunting rifle from a shed and hops on his quod in order to reach the highest hill of the island, so that he can locate the fleeing bastards who’ve slaughtered his dad and god only knows what they’re about to do to his wife and his innocent son. The van has almost made it to the bay, but the roaming engine gives out its position to those who’ve managed gather a few unbelieving fishermen who want to stop what their ancestors couldn’t, almost four centuries before.

Olaffur calls some friends and rounds them up at the bay . Some are crying desperately as they’ve just realized that their loved ones have been killed and abducted. They’re all victims of a blinding rage. Thor seems to have taken possession of Olaffur’s body and soul. The berserk rocker gives chase to the infidels. A pirate who has been left back because of a wounded knee, is decapitated by Olaffur, who has conveyed all his fury into a Machete some friend brought him from a Honeymoon in Guatemala. At the same moment the abductees are being boarded onto the ship in a great hurry. Some have been woken up by kicks and hands feeling up their asses. The same asses that they were holding while dancing just a few hours ago. Many accept their horrible destiny with resignation. As if they were paintings, mere items with market value ready to be sold… We see the lights of the Quads and the Jeeps lighting the rocky path that goes to the bay. Dogs are barking and some sort of siren is resounding throughout the village. The boat has been patched up and is now ready to weigh anchor. The engines start roaring and puffing and thanks to some favorable waves the dingy starts to leave the shore, still encrusted with the last bits of whale blubber and carcasses. Suddenly the up roaring noise of the drunken villains ceases, along with the huffing and puffing of the old engines. The boat is rocking in the middle of the bay, some 300 yards from the coast. The scene is lit by the headlights of the vehicles driven by the pain stricken men of Vestmannaeyjar . We hear a few rounds being shot and some ghastly screams of terror. From the coast we can catch a glimpse of the backlit silhouettes of the women. The islanders realize that their own companions, and sisters are being used like shields of flesh and bones by those dark skinned murderers. The boat looks like a death-ship populated by frightened ghosts and sneering ghouls. Some girls are wearing nightgowns, baby-dolls and some are simply naked, making this even harder on those who’ve been left behind. There is an isolated echo of a gunshot. An old father couldn’t bear the weight of not being able to rescue his only daughter.

Suddenly as if struck by lightening the engines take power and commence to roar once again and in no time the ship is swallowed by the merciless moonlit landscape. From a distance, like a macabre hallucination we hear resonating the song of the Rotten Sharks…
