    Unrealized Artist Identity

    This project is a life.

    Embodied by a person, who is frequently reckoned to be an artists. "So, you are an artist…", they say. Sometimes, I embrace my unrealized identity. It feels like a factoid, not a lie.

    There are notes and drawings hidden in the closet hinting at the potential and the imagination of unrealized art works. The traces of attempts to built a portfolio. Now, they represent the relinquishment of an artistic practice and a life-form.

    The infantile visions have been shut off, silenced by reason and fear. Yet, the desire will never die.

    Thus I stick around the arts indulging in theory, administration and PR, as many do who did not dare to push pass all the obstacles. Imagine the unrealized architect running a restaurant in his favorite building.

    The non-action is not an artistic statement. It is a failure that could be viewed as tragic, pitiful, unsound, a mere intention...

    A realization of this unrealized project would bring to the fore the unrealized, uncovered, lingering personality. It implies a staging of the realized personality as it is approaching the unrealized personality. Within the exhibition setting the two meet for the first time and enter the limbo of the art world.

    The body must deal with an unprecedented mix of emotions of, on the one hand, finally being in once element or, on the other hand, being an intruder. Additionally, it must deal with the reactions of those who uncover the intrusion. The same people now say: "Say, you are not really an artist…" They notice by glancing at the documentation and sensing the awkwardness, both staining the suspected intrinsic artist identity.

    To be in-place or out of place depends on the position of the beholder and the environment, but most importantly, legitimacy depends on the instantaneous convincing presentation of one's (work's) essence. "Fake it to make it" is a propelling notion.
    What is real and what is fake is blended in sometimes.

    Here, the intention is real. And the fake aspect is rendered feeble by the acceptance of the institution.
