Jacek Dziubiński REVERSED TOWER OF BABEL

PLACE: Platz der Republik, Berlin, Germany

IDEA: As described in the Bible (Genesis), for an attempt to enter the heaven and the sin of pride God mixed up languages of builders of the Tower of Babel. A symbolic reversal of the Tower of Babel is to initiate the reverse process.

FUNCTIONS / GOALS: Reversed Tower of Babel is a device for untying tongues and restoring communication.

It is to foster building dialogue [of cultures and religions] and restore the lost unity.

And it is also an observation tower and a place for meetings, events, discussions, etc.

HOW IT WORKS: In the very centre of the Tower there is a shaft of an elevator that takes visitors to the upper viewing platform. A descending spiral running by external walls provides the way downstairs.
