When I decided to become a professional artist in 2005 , I was switching from a career to my vocation , ignorant of how the art world works I concluded the best means of gaining interest and artistic notoriety quickly was to make a selection of large colourful or unconventional artworks which is what I did. My largest and now it seems most foolish piece was to go to Bali and commission local craftsmen to make me 2,500 “special” Dulang, religious stands for taking offerings to the temple. They were made after much tribulation , they look fantastic and were shipped via 1.5 shipping containers to London in 2006 which is where they have been sitting occupying floor to ceiling studio space ever since ; costing me a vast amount of money in storage and limiting my access to make more work. The envisaged sculpture / installation is called “becoming the mountain” and is supposed to be a beautiful , inspiring object , currently it is an uncomfortable private idea only represented digitally www.youtube.com/watch?v=clxeFThRyGc and not the bold public statement that I wanted it to be .
