The Center for Creative Photography (CCP) at the University of Arizona is honored to announce eleven recipients of its several fellowships for the 2023–24 cycle.
This year’s cohort of fellows demonstrates a range of creative interdisciplinary research projects that advance our understanding of and experience with the histories and practices of photography. Their research spans academic, artistic, and public interest domains–from examining how photography enhances empathy among medical practitioners to an in-depth study of camera-less photographs in the Center’s holdings to an artistic exploration of Ansel Adams’s intersecting pursuits in music and photography.
The 2023–24 CCP Fellows are:
Adolf Fassbender Travel Fellowship
Olivia Armandroff, PhD Candidate, University of Southern California / Pedro Noel Doreste Rodríguez, Postdoctoral Fellow, Michigan State University.
Ansel Adams Research Fellowship
Odette England, artist / Dr. Divyansh Agarwal, MD, Clinical Fellow in Surgery, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Dr. Tina Bharani, MD, Resident in General Surgery, Sidney Kimmel Medical College
Gary Metz Research Fellowship
Mariel Miranda, MFA Candidate, University of Arizona / Humberto Morales Cruz, PhD Candidate, University of Pennsylvania.
Harold Jones and Frances Murray Research Fellowship
Clare Strand, artist / Kevin Hong, PhD Candidate, Yale University.
Photographic Arts Council–Los Angeles (PAC-LA) Research Fellowship

At the heart of the CCP fellowship program is a commitment to fostering new perspectives and critical approaches to the Center’s extensive holdings. Key aspects of the program include:
Diverse research initiatives: CCP’s fellowships aim to support research utilizing CCP collection materials, welcoming traditional and innovative research approaches, including creative, digital, and performance-based projects.
Inclusivity: Regardless of experience, expertise, or education, CCP fellowships are open to academics, artists, and others interested in exploring the Center’s unique photographic resources.
Financial support: The program provides awards ranging from 2,500 to 5,000 USD per fellowship, allowing individuals to pursue original independent research on-site at the Center.
Applications for the 2024–25 fellowship cycle will open February 1.
