THE THEATER PROJECT
ACCECARE L’ASCOLTO
AVEUGLER L’ECOUTE / BLINDING THE EARS
ACTION, BEHAVIOUR, PERFORMANCE, INSTANT THEATER IN TURIN
This year, Artissima will for the first time present an accompanying program of events, under the title Accecare l’ascolto / Aveugler l’écoute / Blinding the ears, focusing on on a single theme: the interaction between the visual arts and theater. This realm — interesting not just in historical terms but also in light of contemporary art practice — is to a large extent still unexplored.
Between November 4 and 8, world-premiere events—from plays to performances, concerts and tableaux vivants—will take place in four famous Turin theaters: Teatro Regio, the masterpiece of Turin-born architect Carlo Mollino; Teatro Carignano, a splendid eighteenth-century Italian theater; Cavallerizza Reale, which was once home to the Royal stables; and Teatro Gobetti built in the nineteenth-century. An extraordinary line up of international artists of different generations will take part in Accecare l’ascolto / Aveugler l’écoute / Blinding the ears — key figures in this borderline area between “theater” and “art”, such as Pablo Bronstein, Spartacus Chetwynd, Cao Fei, Gelitin, Matt Mullican, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Jim Shaw, Joanne Tatham and Tom O’Sullivan, Harald Thys and Jos de Gruyter, Nico Vascellari, Tris Vonna-Michell, Bedwyr Williams, and more. Artissima Cinema will also present films, videos, and documentaries relating to theater and performance.
The program is organized by Andrea Bellini, Artissima director, with the help of Yann Chateigné Tytelman, chief curator, who is responsible for general coordination. Curatorial advisors: Andrea Busto, Adam Carr, Luigi Coppola, Ilaria Gianni and Cecilia Canziani, Simone Menegoi, Davide Quadrio and Defne Ayas, Francesco Stocchi, and Aurélie Voltz.
A full calendar of events will soon be up on the Artissima website, and advance tickets will be available for purchase.
