2013 marks Locust Projects’ 15th Anniversary as an experimental exhibition space with a mission to serve artists and the community. To mark this milestone we will inaugurate Locust Talks, a new lecture series that brings visiting curators and directors from innovative institutions across the country and internationally. Each art professional will give a public lecture at our gallery space in Miami’s Design District, followed by individual studio visits with local artists. Curators and directors from diverse institutions across the country will talk about topics impacting artists and their communities, fostering a rigorous critical dialogue and deepening Miami’s connection to the contemporary art world.

The program launches on Thursday, January 17 with Anne Pasternak, President and Artistic Director, Creative Time, New York. The second lecture will take place on April 18 with Lauri Firstenberg, Director and Chief Curator of LAXART. Fairfax Dorn, Executive Director, Ballroom Marfa, Marfa, Texas, will lecture in September–October 2013. Locust Talks will continue through 2015 with major support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

About Locust Projects
Locust Projects is a not-for-profit exhibition space founded by three Miami artists in order to provide contemporary visual artists the freedom to experiment with new ideas and methods without the limitations of conventional exhibition spaces. Artists are encouraged to create site-specific installations as an extension of their representative work, and Locust Projects offers them a vibrant Miami experience to develop their ideas. Locust Projects is committed to offering an approachable and inviting venue for the Miami and international art community to experience the work and meet the artists.

Locust Projects’ exhibitions and programming are made possible with the support from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Cowles Charitable Trust, Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Galt & Skye Mikesell, Hannibal Cox Jr. Foundation, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, the Cultural Affairs Council, the Mayor and the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners, and the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority.
